I’m pleased to announce I’ve just celebrated my fourth anniversary of my business! It’s hard to believe it has been this long! I opened my business right out of massage school in September 2008, sharing space with another massage therapist in the Stephen’s Building on downtown Cherry Street here in Columbia. At the time I was still working at the University of Missouri full-time in the Budget Office. I was doing massage 5p-8p weeknights and 8a-8p on the weekends. Then in 2009 I went to yoga school and added public and private yoga lessons to my offerings. I actually went three years without taking a day off! I really enjoyed the ride, but it began to be very clear to me last summer that I needed to plan for time off. I was working too hard! October 2011 I resigned from my full-time position at MU and began doing massage and teaching yoga full-time. At that same time, the yoga studio I teach at was relocating four blocks west of it’s previous location and so I decided I would move my massage business inside the yoga studio. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to help the studio design my space, and I now have my own office set up exactly as I want it! It has nearly been a full year since I took that leap, but I now take two days off a week, like most everyone else! I truly enjoy working hard, and it’s so easy to lose sight of the fact that I need rest too! I get a massage every week, and enjoy having lazy time to walk in nature, read my stacks of books, and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
