Private and Semi-Private Lessons

In addition to providing massage therapy, I offer private and semi-private yoga lessons. Each private session is designed specifically for your needs. We develop exercises, called yoga asanas, for your individual situation, taking into consideration your fitness level, stress level, and personal goals. In a private session I am able to provide more hands on attention (physical adjustments and assisted stretching), than is often possible in a group yoga class. I do require a brief complimentary phone or email consultation before your first lesson to assess your experience and current needs with yoga lessons.

Fees: $50/60 min or $75/90 min

Packages:

4 One-Hour Sessions: $150 (one free session)

4 90-min Sessions: $225 (one free session)

Public Classes (Held at AlleyCat Yoga)

Sundays @ 4 PM – 5 PM I teach the Community class at alleyCat. This class is $5.  The Community class is a lower-cost offering for all yoga students and is appropriate for beginners and more seasoned students.  My community class offers slower paced flows and extra alignment details of the poses offered.

Tuesdays/Thursdays @ 6:30 AM – 7:30 AM I teach Sunrise Yoga two days a week.  This class incorporates breathing exercises in addition to a slow building, energizing posture practice.  Great way to wake up, and maybe even skip the coffee!  Join us!

Wednesdays @ 5:30 PM – 6:45 PM  Beginners Hatha Flow.  Focus and attention to proper alignment during flow is taught with specific and individualized attention for each participant, giving you freedom to do your version of the poses.  Conscious breathing and awareness of energy are emphasized throughout.

Wednesdays @ 7 PM – 8:15 PM  I teach a Deep Stretch Restorative class.   This class has a contemplative, down-tempo energy and aim to enhance freedom in the body while calming the nervous system and grounding you energetically. A way to bring balance to oneself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, you will experience a rejuvenating practice that includes gentle backbends and hip openers, forward bends and twists.  This is a wonderful introduction to yoga for those who insist they are “not flexible enough” for yoga, or for anyone looking for deep relaxation.

Thursdays @ 9:15 AM – 10:30 AM All Levels Hatha Flow.  An invigorating yet steady flow that will awaken total mindbody connection and ease of motion.  All levels welcome.  Beginners will be led gently and advanced enthusiasts will be given opportunities to deepen the practice.  Each class includes gentle flow sequences as well as time to ‘just be’ in the poses – new focus postures will be explored in each class and then woven into the flow.  Focus and attention to proper alignment during flow is taught with specific and individualized attention for each participant, giving you freedom to do your version of the poses.  Conscious breathing and awareness of energy are emphasized throughout.

My yoga story…

As yoga has been a passion of mine for nearly a decade, it felt natural to want to teach. I find that passing on the joy that is yoga is a wonderful feeling! As I practice teaching friends and family, my understanding of yoga asanas and philosophies increases.

My first exposure to yoga was in my final year at college 2000-2001. I took lessons from a teacher who taught from the Iyengar tradition. This tradition, put simply, has a heavy emphasis on alignment in each pose, and generally, poses are held for longer durations.

After that year I continued to practice on my own with videos and books until I began going to alleyCat Yoga here in Columbia. This studio has a mix of styles, but primarily teaches in the Kripalu tradition, which focuses on a more gentle, compassionate practice.

In September of 2008, I began a teacher training in St. Louis in the Ashtanga/Vinyasa Flow style. I immediately resonated with the strength and energy of this style. After 100 hours in this program, “life got in the way” and I had to leave that program, but the element of physical working of the body really resonated with me. I have continued to work on the primary series of Ashtanga as part of my personal home practice, but albeit more gently than traditionally done in India (by pre-pubescent boys, no less!).

The part of my first teacher training that really stuck with me was the Flow aspect. The element of dance in a yoga sequence or pose itself. This was the main reason I decided to sign up for another teacher training in Kansas City. I want to teach Vinyasa Flow yoga! This style really feels like “home” for me. I did my teacher training through Kansas Siddhi Yoga in Kansas City, Missouri.

I have found the following two books to be profoundly interesting and informative.
